The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (the “CIPO”) has released the 2020 IP Canada Report on January 26, 2021. The IP Canada Report reports on the trends in intellectual property filing activities. One key finding is that the long-term trends for applications filed by non-residents have shown consistent growth for all intellectual property categories. Specifically, non-resident filings have shown positive growth in the last decade, at rates of 4% for patents, 60% for trademarks and 33% for industrial designs, respectively.
